10,000 Hours or How to Succeed in 3-5 years

Your destiny

Your destiny

Today is the New Moon in Capricorn.  That means our thoughts will turn to success and what makes one have power in one’s job or career.  All it takes is 10,000 hours of dedication to whatever your career is.  You can master anything through sheer hard work.  You have to willing to empower yourself and be willing to put in the time and concentration.

Don’t give up.  Our 7 year old grandson said wisely to his grandfather, “We never give up in our family, do we?”  Now no one has ever said anything to this little guy.  But through his astute observation, he noticed that all the adults in our family work hard at whatever task they do.  This has become his mantra actually.  Don’t give up.   You see months after he was born, he had severe whooping cough for some time.  His vocal cords were damaged through all his coughing.  It is only after working closely with a speech pathologist for the past two years, that this little guy can speak clearly enough that we can understand him.  It is through his motivation to want to be clearly heard and understood that he doesn’t give up.

Your Life is in your own efforts.

Your Life is in your own efforts.

The research shows that it is not IQ that leads to success.  It is not opportunity or the family you were born into.  Instead,  dedication, motivation and determination or hard work that are the main factors leading to success.  We create our own opportunities by those main factors.  So empower yourself beginning today.  Set your goal.  Focus on your goal.  Don’t give up.  Your life is in your own hands!  10,000 hours of Deliberate Practice that’s all it takes according to Ericsson (1993).

You can manifest what you want in your life.  Add to your new Moon Vision Board the words, grit and determination!  Yes We Can!

The difference between great people

and everyone else

is that great people create their lives actively,

while everyone else is created by their lives,

passively waiting to see where life takes them next.

The difference between the two

is the difference between living fully and just existing.”

(Michael E. Gerber)

6 Months to Live – Sacred Faces

Death is such a thief.  It’s a supernova of negative emotions. It brings fear into our immediate consciousness.  Therefore death changes our consciousness with a rude awakening. I do not care whether it is the death of someone you love, or the death of a career.  It could be the death of a dream or the death of a beloved pet.  The question remains, “what are my priorities in the time I have left?”.  Death has a way of changing how we perceive our world.  Frankly, I do believe death is a good thing as it helps us to focus on our life priorities more clearly.

A young father, who is dear to my heart, faces sudden brain surgery in a couple of hours.  He and his wife are faced with what truly is important in their lives.  They are pretty young to be dealing with this. They are both aboriginal professionals who have worked very hard defying the odds to get where they are.  He is one of the role models I hold up to people when they say they can’t change the negative in their lives.  This 30 something year old father ran away from a dysfunctional home at age 15 and joined a gang.  In his early 20’s some significant person influenced him so that he returned to high school, then went to university.  He has devoted his life to working with young people ever since.  He is a testimony to the notion in motion, “I can and I will change my life for the better”.  He had one person who believed in him and he succeeded.

This young couple isn’t focused on their careers at this moment in time.  They aren’t focused on their lovely home, or on the things they have worked hard to own.  No, instead the estrangement with his father has been bridged in the matter of 48 hours.  That was important to him.  They have focused all weekend in getting their people house in order, just in case.  You see when it comes to crunch time, the people who are sacred in our lives, suddenly become the most important priority.  It’s not the material stuff we have acquired.

The way to cheat the negative energy of death is to breath life into some aspect of our lives.  Indeed you nullify the negative energy by focusing on the positive.  Death and rebirth are universal themes that each person on the planet has to face at some point in her or his journey.  When someone, or something that we treasure is faced with death, our grief and loss issues become front and centre to our lives.  If we reframe, looking for the good in the situation, it can help us to get through the period of grief and loss.  One strategy in narrowing our focus is to establish our priorities in life.

Reflection Questions on Death & Rebirth

1.  Who are the people in your inner circle who are sacred to you.  Are you spending quality time with them?  Or is your career more important?

2.  What fundamental ideas are sacred to your life?  Are you spending time with those core beliefs?  Why not?

3.  What places do you hold sacred?  Do you spend quality time there?  Why not?

4.  What dreams and passions do you hold sacred?  Are you working towards manifesting those dreams?  Why not?

If you knew you only had 6 months left to live, what would you do differently with your life?  If you only had 1 month to live, would that shift things yet again?  ?  Start doing it today!

Affirmations:

I intend to live my life with passion.

I intend to spend quality time with the people I hold sacred in my heart.

I intend to work towards actively manifesting my dreams.

I intent to stay focused on my core beliefs throughout my day to help me make decisions.

Joy & Happiness in Life’s Game

Batter up!  Play ball.  Joy and happiness is a baseball game.  Self esteem and success in life is a baseball game.  Achievement is a baseball game.  Get real with yourself and play baseball!

We watched a program on the news last night where in one Canadian city, they are using baseball to help build the self esteem of homeless people.  What an awesome concept.  Most of us have played baseball as kids growing up.  So we all understand the concept and the metaphor.

Game of Life

Game of Life

So you miss the pitch the first time.  That’s okay.  You have three strikes and you are out.  You have to practice a lot to connect that ball and bat of life.  Strike one … so I made a few mistakes.  I get a second chance.  I even get a third chance to connect just for this one inning or phase of my life.  You hit a fly ball to the outfield and begin running like crazy.  Whew, you make it to first base.  You were successful.  The problem is everyone on your team of life might not be as successful as you are.  Someone struck out and your team goes to the field.  So someone on the team made a mistake.  That doesn’t mean the game is over by a long shot.  Heavens you get to be up at bat nine innings.  Wow!  That’s a lot of tries to change your circumstances in your game of life.  We have lots of innings in our lives.  Every day virtually brings us a new inning.  So you should strive to do the best you can, just for today.  Eventually you will totally connect with that ball.

It totally baffles me that so many people give up the Game of Life after striking out one or two times.  They whine and snivel and play the blame game rather than looking at their own role in their Game of Life.  They expend so much energy looking for others to blame, that they keep on attracting negative situations to their lives.  That’s the Law of Attraction.  That’s what they feel they deserve, so that is what they get.  They easily can change the dynamics by merely practicing a different and more positive way.  When they are pointing a finger at others, there are 4 fingers pointing back at themselves.  But they totally refuse to look at their own actions and their own behavior.  Blame game is for life’s losers.

Mickey Mantle’s strikeout record was not reknowned.  He didn’t go down in baseball history for it.  Yet Mantle was the player with the most strikeouts for 3 years.  We remember him only for his success.  How did he get there?  He practiced until he got it.   http://www.bamagal.com/nyy/mantle/mmrec.html.   Babe Ruth connected with the ball only .711% of the time.  That’s less than 10% of the time! Neither of these famous baseball players were successful one would think.  Yet, every one of us knows their names whether we play baseball or not.  You see, they never gave up.  They kept on practicing.  They kept on striving for a better performance.  They kept on fine tuning their game of life.  They practiced and practiced until they each were successful.

Life is like that.  If you don’t get it the first time, you practice and fine tune parts of your game that aren’t quite perfect.  No Game of Life is perfect.  So please be an angel to yourself.  Just work at practicing and perfecting the art of living.  Sometimes you connect with the ball and get to run some of the bases.  Sometimes you don’t.  That’s okay.  You are just playing the Baseball Game of Life.  When you have practiced long enough so that you are much better, then you have an amazing joy when you connect with that ball.  Batter up!  Play ball!

Reflection Questions:

1.       What 4 areas of my life do I need more practice so I can hit the ball?

2.     Do I give up after one strike out?

3.     Do I let other people on my team influence whether I win or lose Life’s Game?

4.     Am I willing to play more than one inning in the Game of Life?

Affirmation:  I intend to make the best of today, just for today.  I intend to live my life to the fullest, just for today.  I intend to play the best game of my life, just for today!  I intend to feel good about my life, just for today.  One day at a time!  The outcome of the game is totally up to me!

“Defeat is a state of mind.

No one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as reality.

To me, defeat in anything is merely temporary, and

its punishment is but an urge for me to

greater effort to achieve my goal.

Defeat simply tells me that something is wrong in my doing;

it is a path leading to success and truth.”

(Bruce Lee; 1940-1973)
